In this Sahrawi name, Ould Ali Lamine is a patronymic, not a surname.
Sidi Sheikh Marouane Hachmi (Arabic: ; Japanese: ), commonly known as Sidi Marouane ( ; ), is a Muslim Upper First Class Exorcist. He currently works for the Saifullah Order – a Mecca-based Muslim Exorcist organization that targets evil jinn – as both an Exorcist and the formal diplomat between the Saifullah and the True Cross Order.
Marouane is a 42-year-old Sahrawi man with tan skin, black hair, and piercing golden eyes. His short hair is usually worn in a messy high ponytail or bun with stray strands sticking out on both sides. Marouane's eyebrows are dark and thick, and facial hair frames the bottom of his face and around his mouth. His ears are slightly longer than a half-half Nephilim (i.e. Rin) but shorter than a full Demon's (i.e. Mephisto). There is a long gash running from his right cheek to the bottom of his right eye.
His usual attire consists of a plain white dress shirt, a gray coat, black pants, and a pair of black Oxfords.
Marouane is, by no means, an example of a standard, orthodox Exorcist. In general, he presents himself with a carefree, laid-back, and laissez-faire-like attitude somewhat similar to that of Mephisto Pheles. Not one to be offended easily, he is usually not self-conscious about his physical appearance, clothing – he prefers practicality and comfort to fashion or extravagance – or reputation, being someone who is willing to do whatever is needed to accomplish a task or mission. Despite his Muslim background and his current role as a muezzin, Marouane does not consider himself to be devoutly religious, even outright leaning towards agnosticism or irreligion – he has been noted to have openly questioned the teachings of Islam, the Qur'an, and other religions in the past. His behaviour and actions can be highly unorthodox for a Muslim as well, as Marouane can frequently be found drinking liquor or alcohol (and getting drunk) or smoking hookahs, while he even slept with several women during his youth (he has ceased in this practise, fortunately). To his daughter, Samia, Marouane has admitted in the past that he is "not a good – hell, even a decent – father", as he spent most of Samia's childhood out of the house either with the Order or smoking with Shiro (Samia was left at home with a babysitter). Though usually inconsiderate about Samia's happiness or needs, Marouane genuinely cares for her safety and protection, as he desires to keep the world of exorcism and demons from his daughter's knowledge. Behind Marouane's indifferent and careless façade is his past, which he had worked desperately to bury and hide from the world. He is not one to open up easily, and Marouane will subtly change the topic if his past and history are mentioned. To this day, he and his mother are the only ones who know of Rachid's death at Marouane's hands.
Despite his seemingly unprofessional behaviour, Marouane is considered an esteemed diplomat and speaker for the Saifullah Order. In spite of frequently questioning Islam, Marouane is, nevertheless, highly loyal to his sect and its beliefs. Though one to obediently follow the commands of his superiors (similar to Arthur A. Angel), Marouane displays flexibility and open-mindedness and is capable of realising different perspectives or factors at stake in missions. In Exorcism and the demon-human relationship conflict, Marouane exerts his laissez-faire demeanour; he neither objects nor agrees with the practise of humans and demons having children, rather, Marouane believes that "people should be able to do whatever they wish, as long as they don't harm or negatively affect others". He rarely shows fear or fright in the presence of demons, even to upper-class types. Within both the True Cross and Saifullah Orders, Marouane is regarded as a "peacemaker" of sorts, as he has been able to preserve the freedom of the Saifullah by preventing the former from merging with the latter – unlike the case with the Myōō Dharani.

Marouane was born under the name Marouane Ould Ali Lamine (Laayoune in the Western Sahara. His father, Ali Lamine Ould Mohamed, was a human Sahrawi rebel while his mother, Aisha Qandisha, was a Moroccan Jinniya (Demon). Because his father had small traces of Demon blood through his family, Marouane was born with more Demonic blood than human blood (about ⅝ of his heritage was Demon while the remaining ⅜ was human blood). Aisha, born under the name Aisha Moujahid, was originally a human woman who was transformed into a Jinniya after the Portuguese invasion of her hometown, El Jedida, in the 15th century. Though she came to reside in Jahannam (Arabic: جهنم for Gehenna), she would continue to serve as the defender of the Moroccan lands for the next several centuries.) in the city of
Marouane was conceived by Aisha in her human form after possession of Ali Lamine.

Powers & Abilities
As a muezzin and Exorcist, Marouane possesses extensive knowledge of the Islamic Qur'an and hadiths and can rapidly quote ayahs (verses) for specific demons and jinn. He is one of the few Muslim Arias today, as the title is sacred among the Saifullah and requires a meister to be a hafiz – one who has memorised the entire Qur'an. Unfortunately, most individuals nowadays are not able to complete the daunting task to earn the title.
With his position as muezzin, he also utilizes the adhan ( ) – the Islamic call to prayer – as a form of exorcising jinn. Marouane also places his hand on a host's forehead while reciting ayahs: a real procedure utilised by Muslim Exorcists.
As the official representative of the Saifullah Order to the True Cross Order and the Vatican, Marouane is a commendable speaker and diplomat highly recognised for his talent in resolving any conflict between the two groups.
"So just because you're suddenly sober and acting how a father should gives you the right to call me your 'daughter'? Are you serious? After years of neglect and interrupting my life by forcing me to pick up your sad, drunken ass from a bar, and you're actually trying to get your shit together now? To me, you're nothing but an ungrateful, selfish, and apathetic son of a bitch."
– Samia to MarouaneTBA
Larbi, a Moroccan Exorcist, is Marouane's former partner and a current fellow diplomat between the Saifullah and the Buddhist Myōō Dharani branch in Kyoto. The two met during their training at the True Cross Academy (both were assigned to the school under Saifullah orders), where they were engaged in a rivalry somewhat similar to that between Rin Okumura and Ryuji Suguro.
